APPROVAL OF ARBITRATION/MEDIATION TRAINING COURSES

The purpose of the approval process is to ensure that courses approved/recognised match the Institute’s courses in terms of outcomes and standards. In order to ensure that this process is transparent, fair and measures the appropriate matters, the following process must be observed. The process and requirements apply equally to any application for exemption/recognition.

 

The policy for the manner in which courses are approved is the responsibility of the Professional Committee.

 

The management of the process of dealing with such application is the responsibility of the Secretariat.

The appropriate technical committee will provide any technical advice requested by the Professional Committee.

 

DOCUMENTATION

The following documentation must be submitted by any organisation seeking approval or seeking to renew approval previously granted.

 

Curriculum Vitaes

The C.V’s pf the personnel involved in delivering the course should include the following information:

  • Name
  • Qualifications
  • Mediation/arbitration training experience
  • Mediation/arbitration practice experience
  • Level of participation in training

Syllabus

This should include the following:

  • The training manual if appropriate, handouts and other teaching material
  • Course Programme
  • The overall structure of the programme and the duration of the course
  • The day to day lesson plans indicating the split between lectures, tutorials and simulations
  • The number and length of role plays in the course, with a brief description of each
  • The number of participants (both max and min)
  • The tutor student ratio

Assessment Strategy

  • An explanation of the strategy
  • The methods by which the role plays will be monitored and evaluated
  • The criteria and outcomes required for the successful completion of the course
  • The assessor/student ratio

Quality Assurance Policy

  • Moderation or equivalent process
  • Course Audit Reports
  • Difficulties encountered and how they were dealt with
  • Candidate feedback
  • Moderator feedback

Other Approvals

  • Any other approvals gained form other bodies
  • Is the course subject to any form of external review?
  • Any reports of such reviews within the last three years?
