Course Detail

This one-day course is designed to give you an understanding of the general principles of commercial arbitration and includes a comparison of the main ADR processes - arbitration, mediation and adjudication. It is based on the content of a Workbook which is sent to you in advance and brought to life on the day.

Who Should Attend

• You wish to learn more about arbitration and its benefits to users.
• You are considering further study to become a Chartered Arbitrator.
• You wish to become an Associate member of the Chartered Institute.

Any one new to the field of Arbitration who has not had legal training.

Assessment Result

Successfully completing the assigment allows the delegate to apply for entry to the Institute at the grade of Associate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many hours study of the course workbook is required in preparation for the course?

We would expect the average student who is working full-time to spend between 8/10 hours preparing for the course.

What will happen at the course?

The course will take the form of a series of lectures and discussion workshops and includes a demonstration arbitration hearing which gives some participants the opportunity of role play.

There are two other Introduction courses, what is the difference and do I have to attend all three?

Because the use and flexibility of private dispute resolution is growing, the Institute recognises that some students may wish to learn more about commercial mediation or construction adjudication, so we also offer Introduction Courses specifically dealing with these topics.

You are more than welcome to attend more than one Introduction, but you only need to submit one assignment in order to become an Associate.

I want to make a late booking, but will I have time to prepare?

We do not recommend that you attend this course if you do not have the time to study the Workbook and answer the pre-course questions in advance. The Course assumes that you have carried out this work and you may find the pace of the lectures and discussions difficult to follow if you are not fully prepared.
