Module 2 - The Law of Arbitration

 

Aim

The aim of this module is to provide sufficient knowledge and understanding of the law of arbitration to enable Associate (ACIArb) members of the Institute who wish to specialise in arbitration e to progress to Membership (MCIArb).

Delivery

This module is delivered by a mixture of home study and face-to-face tutorials.

The module is delivered over a period of six months, and you will be required to attend three tutorials, each lasting 6 hours.

 

Intended learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module you should be able to:

  • Explain and apply the principles contained in the syllabus as set out below.
  • Appreciate the significance of the role of the Arbitration Act when deciding disputes.
  • Recognise the ambit of the powers of an arbitrator.
  • Appreciate the requirements for an enforceable award.

Assessment

There are two elements of assessment for this module.

Assignment:

 

20%

 

 

Examination:

80%

 

 

Who should take this module?

To participate in this module, you must be Associate member (ACIArb) of the CIArb and:

  • have passed or been exempt from Module 1 – the law of contract, tort and evidence at under-graduate level or the CIArb examination previously known as Part IIIA, or an authorised equivalent.

CPD

The Law Society and the Bar Council of England and Wales have accredited the Course for 12 hours CPD. If CPD accreditation is required for other organisations, we will be pleased to provide a Certificate of Attendance. Please ask for this on the application form.
