Three co-operate for common goal

May 3, 2006 – The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two bodies who share its objectives to promote the use of arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and to provide users with qualified individuals, trained to a assured worldwide standard.

The three partners, CIArb, the Ecuadorian British Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EGBCC) and the Foundation for International Commercial Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (SICA-FICA) are all not-for-profit organisations. They have agreed to co-operate to provide training and certification for practitioners and professional advisors in Ecuador.

Signing the MoU at the CIArb’s Secretariat in London (from left to right as pictured) is Mike Hooper, President, EGBCC; Michael Forbes Smith, Director General, CIArb; and Bill McLaughlin, Training and Education Officer, SICA-FICA.

At the signing ceremony, Smith said, “As an important economic power in the region and in certain sectors, the time is right to give Ecuadorian businesses and potential investors a timely, cost effective and private mechanism for resolving disputes”.
