New Director to Drive Global Dispute Resolution Standards

June 2007 – Mike Owen joins the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), as Director of Marketing, Membership and Training as the global demand for expert dispute resolvers grows.

In this new role, Mike’s remit will include elevating the profile of the CIArb in new sectors, promoting the benefits and services offered by the organisation, enhancing communications and support to members and branches across the UK and internationally, as well as developing the education, professional training and e-learning support programmes.

Mike joins the CIArb from his previous role as Executive Director of a commercial subsidiary of The NHS Confederation. During this time, Mike also started and ran his own part-time strategic marketing consultancy. He has a background in marketing, business development and general management, with 20 years experience across commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors. Major organisations he has worked for include: Time Warner, British Telecom, Lloyds Bank and Barclays Bank. He has also worked for the NHS and for international accountants, RSM Robson Rhodes.

Commenting on his appointment, Mike Owen said:

“I am very pleased to be joining the CIArb, which is a well-established, respected international professional body, playing a key role in promoting dispute resolution. I look forward to helping to increase further the influence and role of the CIArb worldwide as well as delivering a first-class support and educational development programme.“

Mike’s experience of the not-for-profit sector also includes his current roles as a Trustee of two charities based in the Thames Valley: The Fremantle Trust and Abbeyfield Oxford Society.
