2008 Presidential Handover

Today (17th Jan), CIArb held a ceremony to mark the official handover of the Presidency of CIArb, installing Ms Teresa Cheng SC as the President for 2008. The handover, which took place at the Institute’s London offices, saw Ms Cheng assume the presidency from Mr Hew Dundas.

 

Ms Cheng is a Senior Counsel of Hong Kong SAR, a Chartered Arbitrator and Accredited Mediator. She has held a number of senior appointments worldwide, including:

 

  • Vice-chair of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre
  • A former member of CIArb’s Board of Trustees and a past Chairman of CIArb’s East Asia Branch
  • Chair of the Dispute Resolution and Arbitration Sub-Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (1998-2000)
  • Council member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (2000-2003)
  • Vice-Chair of International Bar Association’s Arbitration and ADR Committee (2001-2003)
  • Council member of International Council Commercial Arbitration
  • Member of the LCIA Asia-Pacific Users' Council

 

Ms Cheng is a prominent international speaker and author. She has delivered many papers on arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, is co-author or editor/ contributing editor of the books:

 

“Hong Kong Arbitration – A User’s Guide” published by Kluwer Law International
“Hong Kong Arbitration – Cases and Materials” published by Butterworths
“Construction Law and Practice in Hong Kong” published by Thomson/Sweet & Maxwell
“Arbitration in Hong Kong: A Practical Guide” published by Thomson/Sweet & Maxwell
“Hong Kong Cases” published by Butterworths.

 

Commenting on her appointment, Teresa Cheng, President of the CIArb, said:
