There is however, a growing trend towards the use of online dispute resolution (ODR) which saves time and subsequently can dramatically cut the cost of resolving a dispute. Allan Connarty of the CIArb describes the benefits of using ODR, he says "You don't waste managers time travelling. You don't go backwards and forwards for days debating issues - it all happens simultaneously, in front of you". There are a number of ODR schemes in existence, one of the most established is run by The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) in conjunction with the CIArb. The ABTA scheme allows customers to submit a complaint online where an arbitrator will look at the evidence from both sides before making a legally binding award.
