Fellowship AssessmentWhat is the Fellowship Assessment?The Fellowship Assessment (FA) is a two-day oral assessment course based on a case study of a dispute. You will be assessed on your knowledge, judgement and self-presentation on a series of problems, written exercises and role-plays.
This FA is designed to assess whether the candidate can demonstrate that he or she can act successfully and appropriately as an arbitrator in typical procedures that can occur during the course of an arbitral reference.
Who should attend?The FA is open to you if you can satisfy each of the following criteria:
VenueInternational Arbitration and Mediation Centre, 12 Bloomsbury Square, London WC1 (Nearest Underground Station: Holborn). Workshop FacultyThe Course Director, Mr Anthony Canham, is a Chartered Arbitrator, Mediator, Civil Engineer, Adjudicator and Past President of the CIArb. He is assisted by experienced practising arbitrators, including Arthur Harverd, John Sims and Peter Aeberli.
CPDThe assessments have been accredited by the Law Society and the Bar Council for 10 hours CPD. If CPD accreditation is required for other organisations, we will be pleased to provide a Certificate of Attendance. Please request this on the application form. Booking Instructions

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat will happen in the oral assessment sessions? You will be in a group of no more than 4 with an assessor. You will given a case study of a commercial contract and the events which lead to a dispute arising. During the assessment workshops, various situations or problems which might arise during an arbitration will be put to you and you will discuss how you would deal with them. There is also a written exercise and the opportunity for you to take part in role-plays.
When will the results be announced? Candidates will be informed in writing by the Chartered Institute of the results of their assessment, usually within one month. Unsuccessful candidates will be eligible to re-sit the assessment after a delay of at least 6 months.
What follows successful completion of the FA?
