The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Patron
Born in Shanghai and educated in Hong Kong, an English Literature graduate, Mrs Chan joined Hong Kong’s civil service in 1962. Holding various posts, Mrs Chan progressed to become Chief Secretary, Head of Hong Kong’s civil service, in 1993.
Following her resignation in 2001, in recognition of 34 years of service to Hong Kong, Mrs Chan was awarded Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1992, Grand Bauhinia Medal in 1999 and Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George in 2002.
A Council member of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) since 2002, Mrs Chan has been active in the promotion of Arbitration as a cost effective and private form of dispute resolution. As the Institute continues to develop its relationships in China and elsewhere in East Asia, we welcome her considerable experience in that part of the world.
